I love how the birds start each new day, with a song. Like clockwork, every morning as the stillness of night turns into day, the birds begin their melodious chorus to begin their day. It made me think of the phrase "sing like a bird", a phrase that means to "divulge secrets with little coercion or to have a beautiful singing voice." But I also thought about the fact that no matter what, a bird always starts the new day with a song.
I was curious about why birds start out so early singing.
I researched it and found that those songs we are hearing are mainly males who are claiming their territory and/or trying to attract a mate. One theory is they start their chorus in the early hours because that is usually the coolest, driest hours of the day allowing their “song” to travel further. It sends a signal to other males to stay away. But then another study showed that while the song could carry just as far at noon, the early morning hours provides a more reliable and clear song, due to a lack of wind.
Another theory is that this early male bird singing has little to do with the effects of the temperature or wind, but rather sends a message to impress the ladies with how strong they are and scare away the competition. If a bird can sing a loud song so early, before having breakfast, it shows they would make a better, stronger mate.
I guess the early bird does get the worm…. Or, uh, the female 😊😊😊
Okay, enough of the bird singing lesson. I was simply curious and knowing these theories doesn’t really matter. What matters is....
Isn’t the melodious song birds sing so beautiful?
Whatever the reason a bird starts each day with a song, we should be more like the birds, starting our day with a song. Not because we have something to prove like those male birds, but to show gratitude for a new day. A new beginning. A new opportunity. Throwing our worries aside. To remind ourselves that WE are strong. Preparing ourselves to take on whatever life has for us in the new day. When our day starts this way, it puts into motion a more positive attitude.
What song will you be singing today. I hope your song is as wonderful as you are. Go ahead. Sing like a bird!

Psalm 105:2 (NKJV) Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him. Talk of all His wondrous works.
