I'm In A Hurry To Get Things Done

You would think that the Corona virus pandemic would have taught me to slow down as many of life’s pleasures were paused as we endured a shutdown from our normal lives. I mean, I started this blog because I had extra time on my hands.

But I still find myself in a hurry sometimes. Some days there is so much to get done and it seems there is not enough time to do it all.

As I found myself one recent day

I was particularly in a hurry as I left my house to go to the grocery store. And like most times, I put grocery shopping off because I simply do not like it. I can’t STAND going. But this day I HAD to go as I was out of many essential items. So off I go still thinking of things I needed to be doing or rather WANTED to be doing instead.

And guess what happened on my way…..

I was caught by a train. My first thought was to take a detour, but I decided I would sit it out and to my delight, I had caught the tail end of it and didn’t have to wait but a minute. Had I gone another way I would have wasted some valuable time. I know what you may be thinking…. And yes, I probably would have only wasted a few minutes…. That's really not much when you stop to think about it.

I’ve always heard when you get stopped by a train, traffic or a traffic light to pray, or to count blessings…. Think of it as a time to “stop and smell the flowers” kind of thing or to even consider that perhaps God is keeping me safe from something ahead.

I made it to the grocery store and finished my shopping in record time and headed back home excited that I finished and was good to go on grocery shopping for a while.

Do you want to know something funny?

I caught another train on the same track as I headed back home. Seriously??? This has NEVER happened before. Anyway, there were two cars ahead of me as I approached the crossing and one of those cars decided to go around all of the railroad arms that had come down. I thought, geez, this guy is in too big of a hurry. (I know, right? Me who was in a hurry….) I thought, well I hope he doesn’t get in an accident or anything. He sure missed his opportunity to have some prayer and blessing counting time in his car. No flower smelling for him.

Want to hear something even funnier?

A song started playing on the car radio and when I heard it, I just started laughing. It was:

I'm in a hurry to get things done Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun All I really gotta do is live and die But I'm in a hurry and don't know why. - By Alabama

Seriously, right? I mean, what a coincidence but oh how funny!! And I had to wait longer for this train. I guess I needed a reminder… A reminder to slow down, pray, count my blessings, AND to remember that perhaps I’m being kept safe from something that may lie ahead. Oh, and, to smell those flowers!

I want to leave you with a few quotes to consider about slowing down. (They are for me too 😊 ) And don’t forget, the next time you are inconveniently stopped in traffic, by a train or a traffic light, consider it as a plan to get you to pray, count your blessings or even remember God may be slowing you down for a reason.
