I chose my blog name, An Anchor of Hope, because when the storms of life rise, and they will, there is an anchor called hope. While an anchor can secure a boat from drifting, hope can secure us during the storms of life and push us to keep going.
HOPE Definition
Noun: a feeling of expectation and something desired for
Verb: wanting something to happen or be the case
I looked up the word anchor and here’s a description of how an anchor works:
When an anchor is tossed into the water and pierces the surface of the seabed, suction produces resistance, created by the bottom material plus the weight of the material above the anchor. As the boat pulls on the anchor, the anchor digs in deeper, creating additional resistance, therefore, securing the boat.
When an anchor is thrown into the water, the hope is that the anchor will hold, and the boat will become secure and safe. In life it’s necessary to throw out that anchor and let the resistance of hope work. That resistance that secures us. An anchor doesn’t have to be big to get the job done. A small anchor has the power to secure a big boat. Hope is that powerful as well! Just a glimmer of hope can make the difference in how we view and manage life’s circumstances. Life can be hard! And at times, there seems to be no hope. But even then, there is hope!
Sorrows and circumstances beyond our control will come into our lives (I know this to be true) and we are left wondering how we will ever survive. When we feel that we can’t go on, all is lost or the pain is much too deep to bear, we can reach for that glimmer of hope that lies within the depths of our soul, and grab for the anchor of hope to secure and strengthen us. The next time you find yourself tossed about in the sea of despair, fear or uncertainty, toss in your anchor of hope to find your peace and strength. Deep within our soul - that’s where hope is found.

Here are the lyrics of an old hymn that explains hope and that anchor:
My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less (On Christ The Solid Rock) lyrics by Edward Mote
My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus name
When darkness veils His lovely face I rest on His unchanging grace In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil
His oath His covenant His blood Supports me in the 'whelming flood When all around my soul gives way He then is all my hope and stay
When He shall come with trumpet sound O may I then in Him be found Dressed in His righteousness alone Faultless to stand before the throne
On Christ the solid rock I stand All other ground is sinking sand All other ground is sinking sand
